Healing in His Wings
Two days after my wife and I were married in Louisiana, we moved to California, where I was stationed in the United States Air Force. We were very young, excited, and a little scared as we began a new life together in a place far from home. Recently, we returned to California for a visit down memory lane, and we were once again amazed by the beauty of God’s creation.
We saw marvelous sights, from the giant sequoias to the majestic mountains of Yosemite. As we passed hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland filled with fruits, nuts, and vegetables, it reminded me of a land flowing with milk and honey. Yet one of the most memorable sights was the West Coast with its cliffs, rocks, and beautiful beaches.
There is something powerful about watching the sun rise on the beach after a long night. Darkness may cover the ground for hours, but the moment the sun begins to appear, the darkness has no power to resist it. The sunrise does not argue with the night; it simply shines, and darkness begins to disappear. Oh, the beauty of a California east coast sunrise!
Many people know what it feels like to walk through a long night physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Pain can make the night feel long, sickness can make hope feel distant, and a difficult diagnosis can cast a shadow over the mind. Yet Malachi gives us a beautiful promise: “The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings.”
This verse paints a picture of the Lord rising over His people like the morning sun. He comes with light, warmth, strength, and healing. Just as the natural sun brings life to the earth, the presence of God brings life to our bodies, minds, and hearts.
The phrase “Sun of Righteousness” points us to the Lord as the source of light and life. Righteousness is not merely a religious word; it speaks of what is right, whole, restored, and aligned with God’s heart. When the Sun of Righteousness rises, He brings things back into divine order, drives out darkness, restores hope, and releases healing where sickness and weakness have tried to rule.
The verse says there is “healing in His wings.” In the Hebrew language, the word translated wings can also refer to the edge, corner, or covering of a garment. That is powerful because later in Scripture, we see a woman who had suffered with an issue of blood for twelve years reach out and touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. She believed that even touching the edge of His clothing would be enough to make her whole, and she was healed.
Healing was in His wings, healing was in His presence, and healing was in the One she touched by faith. This does not mean there is magic in fabric or superstition in a garment. It means the healing power of God flows from the Person of Jesus. The hem was simply the point of contact for her faith as she reached beyond the crowd, beyond her pain, beyond years of disappointment, and laid hold of the One who carried healing.
Malachi’s promise is not that darkness will never come. The promise is that the Sun of Righteousness will arise. Sickness may have brought darkness, but it does not have authority over the Light of God. Pain may have tried to define your days, but it cannot cancel the healing nature of Jesus.
Perhaps you have been waiting for the night to end. Maybe you have prayed, believed, and stood on God’s promises, yet you still feel surrounded by symptoms. Do not let the length of the night convince you that the sun will never rise. The God who promised healing in His wings is faithful, His light is greater than your darkness, and His healing power is greater than the condition you are facing.
When the sun rises, it does not remove every shadow all at once from every hidden place, but its light begins changing the atmosphere immediately. In the same way, God’s healing work may begin in places you cannot yet see. Strength may begin to rise, peace may begin to return, hope may begin to awaken, and the warmth of His presence may begin touching areas of your life that have felt cold, weak, or weary.
One of the greatest discoveries in the healing journey is realizing that healing flows from the light and life of Jesus. You are not reaching toward an empty promise; you are reaching toward the Sun of Righteousness, the One who rises with healing in His wings. Today, lift your eyes above the darkness, reach out in faith, and expect His light to touch every part of your life. The night is not stronger than the sunrise, sickness is not greater than the Savior, and this is your challenge: step out of the shadow of fear and begin walking in the healing light that is already rising over you.
Prayer
Father, thank You for being the God who brings light after darkness and healing after pain. Thank You that the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings. Today I lift my eyes to You and place my faith in Your healing power. Let Your light shine into every dark place, every weak place, and every hurting place in my life. Strengthen my body, renew my hope, and fill me with Your peace. I thank You in advance for the healing, restoration, and wholeness You are bringing into my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
